A breeding colony is 1 male and 5 females approximately 6 inches long. Less than 5 females the male will agitate the females.
If you want to grow your own breeding colony, it takes about 5 months for the juveniles to mature to breeding age. You need a 100 gallon take or larger for breeding.
Fingerlings are 1-inch to 3-inch and grow rapidly at this stage of their life.
We do not ship fry which is a newborn smaller than a grain of rice up to less than1-inch. Our fingerlings are a month or more old
Our babies travel by express mail to arrive in 2-3 days in packaging specifically designed for shipping live tropical fish. The boxes are lined with crush resistant foam that insulates your fish from extreme temperatures and special plastic bags with oxygen. In winter, we include special 72-hour heat packs to keep them warm.
We ship 10% extra on fingerlings to cover any losses. We guarantee them to arrive alive. If you experience losses beyond the extra 10% (10 extra fish per 100) please let us know. Instructions are included in the shipping box for any replacement fish, if needed.
Aquaponics point: You can put 73 pounds of tilapia in a 275 gallon IBC tote and 88 pounds in a 330 gallon tote. This is approximate quantities of fingerlings of 70 and 85 tilapia before grow-out.
